Struggling With Being Rawsome! :-(

Last week my intention was to eat only raw food for 7 days. Had  I done so, I would have been able to lose at least 2 -3 pounds. The raw diet would have consisted of fruit, vegetables and raw nuts. I started off pretty good on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday morning I had loads of fruit and some raw nuts. I then went to gym. At lunch time I was starving and I just did not desire anymore fruit or vegetables or nuts. So, I cooked.

Now nothing is wrong with cooked food. I merely wanted to challenge myself. I had a strong determination for two days. But it’s all about the mind and I will be able to try this again soon. I even had a diary of the food I would eat for each meal. It did help but after day 2  I stopped looking at the diary and I was craving things like beans and pasta and cooked soy.

It’s amazing how powerful food is and  the effects it can have on your mind. You just need to  be strong and for those who are struggling with their weight you have to say no to those food that will make you gain weight. Weight loss is all in the mind .  You must motivate yourself to exercise and eat healthy. Or else your result will lead to endless problems that goes along with weight gain.

Of course there are some people that would argue that eating raw is not the best way because you’re missing out on proteins and calcium that non raw foods can give you . However, I believe that everything should be in balance and therefore 7 days of raw eating is not going to shut you down.  Just ensure that you are taking your supplements during that time. I can assure you that raw foods are low in calories, fat and sodium and high in fiber. The fat will melt away.

So I’m going to try eating raw again. Soon. You’ll hear about it. I’ll tell you if I succeeded or not. Maybe you can join me in my mission.

Lambs To The Slaughter, Be Vegan!

Lately I have been doing some research on the conditions in which animals have had to endure and are still enduring in certain parts of the world. It may seem as a struggle for me especially if the meat is being senselessly dangled in front my face by meat eaters. However, that being said, as I looked at some of the ways in which these animals are treated my heart goes out for them. I wouldn’t want anyone to treat their pet animal so cruel. Of all the reasons I have outlined in my previous post as to why I have ditched meat this has now become the most pertinent one.

Animals have feelings. Most of them are kind and sweet and they make you happy. Billions of animals get their heads blown off daily some are beaten and tortured. Do we have to reach to such lengths? There are so many other ways to get maximum protein intake. You can work out daily, lift weights and still have energy to burn if you are on a vegan diet. Anyways, I know it can be difficult, especially if you have been eating animals all your life and not aware of what is happening behind closed doors. Take a look at this  slaughter house in 2014 video. It’s sad but real.

Did Trini Vegan Eat KFC ?!! :-0

DSC_0011

Being vegan can be a struggle especially when there is meat at your home constantly. This week was  a bit challenging for me. After my usual work out at the gym I had a friend pick me up and we went in search of some food. I bought myself a salad and then my friend decided to go to the KFC restaurant. Now in my post vegan days I would have gladly enjoyed a scrumptious box of fries, fried chicken, coleslaw and butter biscuits. Gosh it was tempting. Despite the fact that I hadn’t eaten meat in months. It smelled awesome and at that moment I wanted to ditch my salad and eat flesh. Yumm.

So I bought a box. I took it home. I kept my salad and I gave my brother the KFC. I was terrified, but I was happy and relieved that I was able to resist. So it has been difficult. Especially when your mom decides to cook up a Sunday special that consists of stewed lamb and baked chicken! They are killing me!

Well I’ve resisted this week thus far. Let’s see what the coming weeks will bring.  My New video on how to make a healthy snack coming soon.

To Be or Not To Be Vegan. Vegan out!!

My body weight loss, or not, while being vegan!!

Side view

This is a photo of my stomach while being vegan. Well I lost 5 pounds in 2 months. Not much I would say. I deleted all types of animal meats from my diet I replaced it with soy. I have substituted the cow’s milk for almond and soy milk and I try my best to eat more vegetables. However I have increased the intake of flour and rice. I am yet to substitute white rice for brown rice and I work out 5 times a week.

Front view

During this time while eating meat and other non vegan foods my weight was at155lbs. I was working out in the gym like 5 days a week and watching what I ate . Which is basically what you are supposed to do. I did eat a few unhealthy snacks on rare occasions. My diet also consisted of flour and white rice which I ate like twice to three times a week.

The Lifestyle

To answer the question in my Introductory post, yes, I blasted the fat but only by 5 pounds. So sad 😦 😦 😦 😦 …

Being vegan is wonderful but challenging. It does help that there are so many substitutes out there. It’s not just about giving up meat. Its about giving up foods that just isn’t very healthy for our bodies. Giving up ingredients like hydrogenated oil and MSG  and other  ingredients aids in keeping the body clean and free.

I have substituted things like Peter Pan peanut butter for Earth Balance Natural Peanut Butter because of the lack of hydrogenated oil in them. Check out the link below that talks about the dangers of hydrogenated oils.

http://www.mayoclinic.org.  I use coconut oil to cook instead of flora oil. Listen I’m not telling people to substitute or that my lifestyle is better I’m just trying something new and I’m actually really enjoying it and having fun with it.

But why am I not 120 -130 pounds yet. Its simple I need to give up flour and white rice completely and stop eating peanut butter every day because although its a healthier choice and I’m addicted to it. Peanut butter in my opinion is still fattening ..
